Guangzhou Children’s Palace Choir

 
Founded in 1954, Guangzhou Children’s Palace Choir, is a children’s choir of the city. The choir has over eighty members participating in regular training and performance. It has a choir training centre capable of accommodating more than one thousand children for choral and vocal training in preparation for the choir. Professional music teachers are hired to conduct and teach in the choir. Some famous domestic experts have also been invited to be the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director for the Choir.
 
Guangzhou Children’s Palace Choir, with its musical technique and deep comprehension, has a special performing style to choral songs. The Choir has won many prizes at various domestic and international competition.It has received nine consecutive ‘Excellent Demonstration Award’ at the Guangzhou School Choir Festival and it was also named as “The Model Choir” and “The National Best Choir”.
 
Being one of the nation’s top children’s choirs, Guangzhou Children’s Palace Choir has given performances on numerous occasions for musicians, educators and visiting groups from all over the world. It has also visited Hong Kong, Macau and other cities in the world for exchange performances. The Choir performed “The Yellow River Chorus” with the Central Orchestra of China.

 The choir has been active in giving performances on the international choral stages as well. It was invited to visit Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver in Canada in August 1996. It performed with many accomplished choirs from Sweden, America, Israel, Slovakia, Argentina and Denmark in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd China International Choir Festival. It performed in European Culture Capital Winter Arts Festival in Stockholm, Sweden during Christmas in 1998 and New Year in 1999. As the only invited choir from China, the Choir performed in the 5th International Choir Festival in Rotterdam, Netherland in July 1999. Commissioned by the Guangzhou Municipal Government, in August 1999, it participated in the 20th anniversary celebration performance for the Guangzhou-Fukuoka Sister City establishment in the sister city of Fukuoka. The Choir won the ‘Best Art Performance’ and ‘Little Angel Golden Statue” awards in Shanghai (Pudong) International Choral Festival in July 2002. It won two Golden Prizes in the Children’s Group and the Accompanied Folk Songs Group when it appeared on the International Olympic Choir Festival in Korea in 2002. It was named “the Resident Artist” in 2004 at the Kathaumixw International Choir Festival in Canada. The Choir has received high acclaims for its excellent performance in the nation’s first large children’s scene play—“A Tale of Guangzhou —Long, Long Ago”” in June 2006. It received Gold Prizes in Children’s Group, Modern Music Group and Folk Songs Group of the 2nd International Youth and Children Choir Competition in Hong Kong. It was the only children’s choir invited to Normandy France to join the 2nd International Chorus Show in October 2006.
 
Guangzhou Children’s Palace Choir emphasizes on creating new songs and performance style. Its recent effort on exploring folk music and Cantonese dialectal songs, together with its rich repertoire, high level of singing skills and unusual communicating power have won high appraisals from the overseas choral experts and audience and from Chinese high commissions abroad.
