The China International Chorus Festival ( Abbreviated as CICF ) was founded in 1992, which is a national- level Art Festival approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. The event was held every two years at the capital city of Beijing. Up to now, the Festival have been constantly held nine times. The Festival is a large-scale with its highly recognized standard artistic work took place in China with gathering of both Professional and social performing choirs from home and abroad. It has enhanced the mutual cultural exchanges with external countries, raising the performing standard, and pushing forward the artistic level of the choral music. The CICF has been constantly pushing forward the artistic level of the choral music .The CICF has been of great significance and widely praised by the people in the circle of the choral music around the world. As proved, the China International Chorus Festival have encouraged more than 500 choirs from home and abroad participated the champion competition or attended the Festival, among which around 45 % of choirs were coming from abroad.

 

The aim of the Festival is to “Building up the   harmonious world, for Tomorrow Peace and Friendship.”  The Festival made people from various countries and regions with different race and nations gathered. They gathered around cheerfully, and competing friendly, exploring the joy of singing towards peace of the world ,with bright enthusiasm singing for friendship and the graceful thoughts of humanity.

 

The principle of CICF is to strengthen the combination of artistic competition improvement and exchange performing skills, strive to achieve higher international standard, insist on describing greatness of the era, bright artistic characteristic , higher artistic standard and equal competition of the chord.

 

The 10^th China International Chorus Festival will be launched from 28 July to 02 August ,2010 in Beijing. China. By the time , the part of sphere will be thrilling with the choral music, all the choir members will be  gathering as creativity sector for peace, they will be cheerfully around, from unknown to acknowledge each other, to build up friendship. They will be performing and sharing and praising for peace and friendship, describing the joyfulness of the lives of the human beings.

 

The 10^th China International Chorus Festival will be held from 28 July—02 August, 2010 in Beijing, China.

The overall organizational work of the 10^th China International Chorus Festival is under the superior authority of the Organizing Committee of the Festival.

 

The office of Administrative Affairs, Competition and Performance Dept., Program Planning Dept., Propaganda Dept., Reception Dept., Ticketing Dept., Financial and Funding Dept., Safe & Security Dept., etc.. The working staff of various department are from units of organizing structure of the Festival, which will be coordinating with each other, being responsible for the overall preparation, operation proceeding and all the tasks while the Festival is on session.

 

The office of the Organizing Committee of the Festival is set up at the China Art and Entertainment group.

 

The Jury committee is established which will be responsible for the evaluation work towards the choirs attending the champion competition during the Festival. The Jury Committee is set up with participation of musical experts from home and abroad, composers, conductors, theorist, singers and scholars etc..

 

The aim of the Jury Committee of the 10^th china international Chorus festival is to strengthen the principle to maintain strictly supervision of the competition,  being justice, brightness, and authority proven. To set up moral and virtue, and being reliable for the participating choirs, with active working attitude towards the career of the choral music. The jury committee will evaluate the scores of the choirs based on the evaluation system issued by the Organizing committee ( see detailed evaluation system of the regulation ), to maintain fine agreeable social images.

 

The program for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival are as the following :

 

—The Opening Ceremony for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival

—The choral champion competition

—To launch the 1^st China International Chorus Symposium

—To organize the master classes on the theme of international choral music conducting

—The chorus exchange performances into the social communities ,including  the venues of public squares,  gardens and parks and present performance and interacting with choirs among the masses;

—To arrange concerts for the choirs with special characteristics both at home and abroad

—The workshops for choral music

—The Closing Ceremony for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival and Awarding Ceremony

 

 

For all professional or amateur choirs who expect to participate the competition to find out the weakness of performance and prove their level of achievement.

Significance of the participation-

From the purpose of winning the rival to gain even higher grading to the aim of completing the overall technique and artistic talents. To present till extremely perfection to win oneself, so as to find out the success and weakness, the significance of the participation is far beyond the competition itself.

 

1.For the choirs having had experiences on national and international level and obtained great success, to participate for honorable presentation and concert for  their artistic characteristics.

 

2.For the choirs wish to participate the performance of higher level , or through instruction and evaluation of experts, and exchanges and interaction with choirs of higher artistic standard to accumulate experiences, and to improve themselves.

 

Main activities : concerts with evaluation of experts, qualification test, concert for special characteristics presentation, exchange performances, observation, workshops on choral music, master classes etc.

 

Jury Committee :The jury committee of the 10^th China International Chorus Festival posses the authority to evaluate the performance

 

Evaluation System : The experts will evaluate through working standard of intonation, quality of music, entire ability of mastering the musical piece,( including tempo, dynamics and rhythm, indication on the scores ) and overall artistic impressions, then will give suggestion and comments, instruction and complete evaluation should be given.

 

Prizes and Awards :

A Certificate of Excellent Performance for the choirs should be awarded to the choirs participate the performances, and an evaluation and suggestions given by the jury committee in written form with the signatures of adjudicators .

 

Significance of performances: All choirs could be able to present through the platform provided by the Chorus Festival, to have the opportunity with the choirs of higher standard, as well as the opportunity for the overall choirs to improve and complete themselves through the event.

 

For all the choirs register to participate the Festival are recommended to apply for concert of special characteristics. After achieving permit by the organizing committee and a rental fee paid, one choir might have a special concert held entitled with Special concert for ＊＊＊ of The 10^th China International Chorus Festival. ( or it’s agreeable to entitled on the own requests, to reach the consents of the organizing committee in advance ).   

 

 

The choirs of all artistic characteristics from home and abroad are welcome to participate the 10^th China International Chorus Festival. The necessary requirements are announced as the following:

1.To fill in and complete the Registration form of the 10^th China International Chorus Festival, and hand in to the organizing committee of the Festival.

 

2.To provide the video material of the choir recorded within recently two years, ( video document including MP3.WAV. VCD. DVD are all valid ) , to ensure the audio printing and music sounding are in good quality, and the date of recording should be printed.

 

3.The --- of the choir ( a written article within 200 characters) and the ----- of the conductor ( a written article within 150 characters)  and the printing in electronic edition are required.

 

4.To provide three digital photos for the choir, ( different photos , the photos minimum size is 300dpi ), and two digital identification photos for the conductor.

 

5.To present each performing musical scores and the printing in electronic edition. 

 

6.For the performing musical composition having been published, the choirs are requested to perform in its original characteristics, it shouldn’t be allowed to arrange it arbitrarily. The choirs are requested to note  reserve their copy right , in case of any occurrence of the complication , the responsibility should be born by the performing unit.

2.There is no age and number limits for the choirs will not participate competition ;

 

3. Requirements for competition choirs

For all participating professional or amateur choirs which are qualified for the divided categories are requested to register to the champion competition. For the choirs achieving qualification from the jury committee of the Festival, might be proceeded to the finals of the competition directly.             

 

4. Conductor

Each choral conductor is requested to conduct one choir in one category base.

 

5. Accompaniment

The musical accompaniment are only provided with piano, accordion, a cappella or musical instruments of regional ethnic characteristics ( 5 pieces only), The Organizing Committee of the Festival only provide piano, will not provide any musical instrument of any style. The use of any accompaniment sound tracks are strictly prohibited.

6. Performance Time Limits;

The limits of time for performance is 15 minutes, e.g. from the beginning of music till the sound of music ends. The exceed of time should result in certain points deducted.

 

7. The music repertoire for the competition

The maximum of three musical works are permitted to perform. The native Chinese works or western musical pieces are equally recognized.

 

8.The order of performance

The order of performances will be determined by the method of drawing lots.

 

9. The Scores

The choirs are requested to hand in each performing musical scores to the organizing committee, and it should be printed into the internationally recognized scores ( five line scores).

 

The scores used for the exchange performances should also be handed in to the organizing committee.

 

The Champion Competition for the 10^th China International Chorus festival will establish a series of Prizes and Awards according to the categories of choirs as the following:

Gold Medal, Silver medal, Bronze Medal, Excellent performance, Excellent Conductor, Excellent Accompaniment and International Friendship Awards ( for foreign choirs).

The Organizing Committee of the Festival will confer the  Award Cup and the Certificate of Awards of the Festival upon the winners.

The Festive will establish the Special Memorial Prizes for the participating performing choirs.

 

The jury committee of the10^th China International Chorus Festival is set up to evaluate the performing choir based on the performance in four major respects: 

 

—Intonation

—Sound quality of music

—Fidelity to the scores

—Overall artistic impression

 

1.Principle of Evaluation

 

A.Intonation, refers to the ability of the choir mastering the musical intonation, horizontal melody and vertical harmonious chord。

 

B.Fidelity to the Music, the expression of rhythm  , tempo, dynamics and artistic characteristics, with the properly describing the indication of scores and intimate proficiency.

 

C.The sound quality of music, relates to the presentation as the musical works acquire, the alternatives of colors of music, the sound quality and sense of aesthetics of the music.

 

D.Overall artistic impression, refers to degree of mood the choir describe through the differ of musical works, as well as the effects of stage and the overall artistic impression and gracefulness through many other respects.

 

2.Method of Evaluation

The full result for each individual item is 5 points, and the full mark for the four respects which totally added should be 20 points.

The adjudicators of the jury committee will evaluate the performances of each choir comprehensively, and give points according to the regulations in four respects respectively, and add them to obtain the points given by one adjudicator. The final result will be determined with the highest point and the lowest point given by the adjudicators disregarded. The average of the remaining points is the final result of the choir.

 

3.the Result of Evaluation

The adjudicators of the jury committee will evaluate the singing performances based on the evaluation system, and arrange the grades of the choir , to determine the winners of Gold medal, Silver Medal or the Bronze medal. The 10^th China International Chorus Festival will not set a margin of proportion in advance, the grade should be determined by the final results of the choirs.

 

The final grade achievement will be announced at the Closing Ceremony of the 10^th China International Chorus Festival & the Awarding Ceremony.

The highest point given by adjudicator 1 and the lowest point given by adjudicator 3 should be disregarded. The average points of the remaining 5 adjudicators is 16.2 points, the final results of the choir is 16.2 points.

For all the recommended choirs intended to register to the 10^th China International Chorus Festival, the deadline for registration is on 31 May, 2010.

Step 5 To settle the balance of the payment

To reconfirm the date and time of arrival and flight details to the Organizing Committee of the Festival.

The 10^th China International Chorus Festival will  provide following presents for the competition participating choirs:

 

a. A Special volume issued by the 10^th China International Chorus Festival for each champion competition participating members.

 

b. Five handbooks for The Directory for program of the 10^th China International Chorus Festival.

 

c. Free admission tickets for observation of the champion competition , exchange performances, and concert of the special characteristic presentation, or recital (free tickets are available, should be reserved in advance)

 

d. A T-shirt for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival  for each participate and a souvenir badge for the Festival for each participates;

 

e. A copy of 12’ photograph  for each choir with the  signature of adjudicator and its electronic edition attached.

 

f. To provide an Invitation for the Welcoming Reception Party for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival.

 

g. Each choir will obtain five free admission tickets for “ China International Chorus Symposium” and tickets for the Master Classes.

 

a. Requirements— Owning to existing circumstance of the venue of performances and the efficiency work of the Organizing Committee, the choirs are requested that all the conditions of lodging and boarding of the participating choirs will be arranged by the Organizing Committee of the Festival.

 

b. Standards of Accommodation

According to the requirement of the choirs, the organizing committee will provide four difference  accommodation standard for your own choice— Deluxe standard, standard, Economy class.

 

c. Terms of Payment

For all the participating choirs are requested to pay a certain amount of payment to the organizing committee, the full payment should be settled prior to the arrival of the choir.

 

The Organizing Committee of the 10^th China International Chorus Festive posses the right of recording pictorial and video information during the Festival. And the organizing committee have the authority to use the material while necessary, including audio recording of the chorus performances. The Organizing Committee also reserves the right to publish these material in media or into networks while necessary.

Chorus Festival   

 

The Opening Ceremony for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival.

2. Concerts, The Friendship Concert, Concert for choirs of special Characteristics, Concert in squares or parks etc.

 

3. Master Classes

Launch the course of Chorus conducting presented by Conductor and Experts from home and aboard

 

4. Workshop

Instructions given by the known conductors from home and aboard, spend time for experiences sharing between the choirs.

 

5. Observation & Study

All the choirs are admitted to observe the competition, friendship performances, and some concerts for the choirs of special characteristics.

 

6. Chorus Exchange Centre

Approved by the Organizing Committee of the Festival, the choir may have mutual friendship get-together held, to exchange improvement of skills of chorus between each others.

 

7. Standard Qualification & Concerts evaluated by experts

In according with the requirements of the competition and evaluation System issued, the jury committee will give standard qualification test to the choirs; The experts will suggest and give comments to the choirs which major in four respects, intonation, quality of sound, fidelity of music and overall artistic impression;

 

8. Sightseeing and Travel

The travel and sightseeing arrangements will be arranged in accordance with the program activities

The Closing Ceremony for the 10^th China International Chorus Festival & Awarding Ceremony. After conclusion of the ceremony, the Choirs will arrange departure onwards.
